I would like to welcome you to the website of Gail A. Shade, MA, PsyD where you will be introduced to information regarding my private counseling practice. Please browse and read all the areas of this site, and do not hesitate to call with questions regarding any information about my practice. Choosing to begin therapy is often a major step, and I want all potential clients to be informed and comfortable before our first session.
I provide therapy for adults, adolescents, children and families for a variety of mental health disorders.
Areas of Expertise Include:
- Anxiety/Panic Disorders
- Bi-Polar Disorders
- Grief and Loss Issues
- Childhood Disorders (ages 3 and up)
- Adjustment Disorders
- Parenting Issues
I find working with children to be particularly rewarding. I encourage the participation of both parents in the counseling sessions. I do meet separately with the parents who are divorced.
My background training in psychology is quite diverse, and I use a variety of treatment approaches. When it is clinically appropriate, I prefer to use more cognitive behavioral psychology approaches to treatment. I often use a family approach in the counseling process which involves how you experience and interact with the individuals with whom you live.
During your first session, we will discuss the counseling process and how it can work specifically for you or your child. We will begin to look at the issues and concerns that you might be struggling with in various areas of your life. Part of the counseling process involves helping you look at the issues you bring to therapy in many different ways. In doing this, we will work to find a more comfortable alternative to the emotional discomfort you may be enduring.
Together, we will develop a treatment plan that best fits you, your child’s, or your family’s individual needs.
